Implant Dentistry

Dental implants are metallic screw-shaped titanium based cylinders, which are placed into jawbone to replace missing teeth. Implants are the most effective way to replace natural teeth, simultaneously gaining function and aesthetics.

Dental implants are commonly placed to replace single missing tooth, multiple missing teeth or full arch of missing teeth (All-on-four).

At Shell Cove Dental, we offer dental implants to our patients who have both missing teeth or simply cannot wear dentures. The type of implant differs from case to case and your dentist will discuss the procedure and time frame to place an implant.

What does the procedure involve?

  • Analysis of the jaw bone using 3D Cone beam X-ray
  • Depending on the amount of bone currently present in the jaw, bone graft may be necessary for some cases. The bone graft is usually placed for few months, followed by another analysis to ensure there is adequate bone.
  • Comprehensive oral examination is carried out to ensure that the mouth is free from any gum disease or patient does not have uncontrolled medical conditions, such as uncontrolled diabetes, which could affect the placement and health of implant.
  • Dental implant is inserted and allowed to integrate within the jaw bone for few months.
  • Once Osseointegration of implant has taken place, a crown is placed on top of the implant to restore natural functioning and aesthetics in the area.

Immediate Dental Implants

Immediate dental implants can be placed in some cases with or without a bone graft where there is no underlying medical condition or gum disease evident.

Immediate dental implant often involves extraction of decayed tooth, following bone graft and immediate placement of dental implant, allowing to Osseointegrate to surrounding bone.
