Childrens Dentistry

At Shell Cove Dental, we recommended children as young as 1 years of age to be brought to the dentist for early assessment of habits such as bottle-feeding and thumb sucking. This ensures that our dentists can work with parents in eliminating such habits early and getting children familiar with dental environment.

The consultations are generally brief for young children, however they become more thorough as the child grows older and we can carry out comprehensive exams and cleanings.

We pride our clinical practice on prevention and oral hygiene and we strongly believe that these practices taught early to children can mold into their daily lifestyle.

First Dental visit

First visit to the dentist can be a little scary for young children. At Shell Cove Dental we ensure that your child becomes familiar with the environment and we encourage parents to bring them along to their regular check-ups.

Waiting room and In chair relaxation

While your children are waiting, they can try out some amazing dental activities and fun exercises on our iPad docking stations in waiting room. This will help them familiarize themselves with brushing techniques and diet every time they come to dentist.

Our clinic chairs are specifically designed with little one’s in mind. We have Televisions installed on roof to help distract young anxious patients while they get treatment in dental chair.

Fissure sealants

What is a tooth fissure?

Teeth have grooves and fissures embedded naturally onto their biting surfaces. Some Fissures and grooves can be naturally deep, attracting plaque and bacteria to get caught. Toothbrushing alone cannot reach deep enough into the grooves, hereby leaving plaque undisturbed and causing a cavity.

What is a Fissure sealant?

Fissure sealant is a preventative dental treatment, commonly used for children and sometimes adults too. Fissure sealant is a protective coating that is applied on top of these fissures, making them smooth and plaque retentive.

The benefit of fissure sealant is that there is no drilling involved (painless) and the procedure normally involves the dentist cleaning the fissures, followed by placement of fissure sealant coating. This makes the procedure comfortable and relaxing for the young children to tolerate in dental chair.
